More from Ranee Henderson on Gallop

Ranee Henderson’s high relief transcriptions of painterly visages and figurative deconstruction touch upon multiple layered themes. Open, abstracted, pastoral backgrounds underscore a critique of utopian ideals played out by characters embodying the youthful savagery of competitive sports. Portraits in the compositional vein of yearbook photos or mugshots assert notions of identity through texture, color, pattern and presence. In all of Henderson’s images, narrative clues deepen and contradict passages of formal logic and pictorial illusion.

Ranee Henderson is a visual artist based in Los Angeles and is is currently an MFA candidate at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College. She has previously received BFA degrees in Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2010, and Art Center College of Design in 2015. A previous solo exhibition, Latch Key, was presented in 2015 at the Palos Verdes Art Center.
