Harold Cohen: Painting About Representation (1962-71)

Nov 12, 2026 – Jan 9, 2027

More from Harold Cohen on Gallop

Seventeen paintings by Harold Cohen from the 1960s and early 1970s, from large canvases to the Colored Maps of 1970-71, show how his rule-based way of painting became the foundation for AARON, his pioneering computer program for making art. Cohen represented the UK at the 1966 Venice Biennale and by 1968 was making his first computer-generated paintings. The show takes its title from his remark that his work was not representational but about representation.
