Jackie Slanley

These Petals Fly is a solo exhibition of the most recent sculptures by Jackie Slanley. Jackie Slanley is a first-generation Vietnamese American artist living in Brooklyn NY.

The current genesis of Slanley’s work utilizes laser-cut Plexiglass as a mode of storytelling. Recontextualizing archived flora, fauna, monstera, and environments, the pieces, set ablaze, represent a world on fire. Each layer of Plexiglass is cut and fastened together with bolts and screws on mechanical wall mounts. Resembling paint diluted with turpentine, a film-like gradient is built up with many layers of tinted transparencies, making each color glow from within. Using vectors to create original pieces of digital imagery, Slanley directly pulls from patterns of symbols and language repeated throughout storytelling across cultures.

Jackie Slanley is a first-generation Vietnamese American artist living in Brooklyn NY. Stanley builds worlds through objects by re-imagining mythological symbols. She has been an artist in residence at Ox-Bow School of Art and a recipient of a sculpture fellowship at Vermont Studio Center. She has shown nationally and internationally in NYC, Kansas City, Washington D.C, Austria, and Spain. She received her BFA in painting from Hunter College and her MFA in sculpture from Pratt Institute.
