"No Borders In The Desert" is as much an excuse to show some of our favorite artists for Bushwick Open Studios (Oct 1 - 2), as it is a meditation on making art and showing art here, today - through the lens of hospitality.

Being at home, making the home, being a guest, a host, a hostage, are all roles we give and take daily, at the smallest level to the most global. With these roles come power dynamics, opportunities for compassion, exploitation, generosity and exclusion. We become guests and hosts when entering thresholds, shaking hands, crossing borders, building walls.

Some give the power to their guest, some leave the Other at the fence, some open doors only for the divine. But what happens when there are no borders to cross, no roles to take?

For the weekend of BOS and the following week, Idio's downstairs gallery shows the home at the edge, in the debris of civilization, in the gaps, in how we act and in who we are. The upstairs gallery is full of painterly abstraction, playful color and current works by local artists - it concretely embodies our practice of hospitality, in the act of showing, as an art space, both host and guest in the larger context of Bushwick, and of New York.
