Jane Yang-D'Haene & Allan Gandhi

Galerie Sardine is pleased to present Long Light, an exhibition of new ceramic sculptures by 2026 Loewe Foundation Craft Prize finalist, Jane Yang-D'Haene, alongside a suite of new paintings by Brazilian artist Allan Gandhi, marking his first comprehensive presentation in New York.

The exhibition brings together two distinct practices united by a shared sensitivity to intuition and the slow accumulation of mark and meaning across richly worked surfaces.

Taking its title from the lingering light of midsummer, the exhibition considers light not simply as a condition of visibility, but as a material presence, deepening color, extending duration, and gradually revealing form. Yang-D'Haene's luminous glazes absorb and refract light through layered ceramic surfaces, while Gandhi's paintings unfold through a restrained palette and quiet atmospheric intensity. In both bodies of work, meaning emerges through sustained looking rather than immediate revelation.

Born in Seoul and based in New York, Yang-D'Haene draws upon the enduring legacy of Korean ceramics while extending it into a distinctly contemporary sculptural language. Working from the archetypal form of the moon jar, she transforms one of Korea's most revered ceramic traditions into vessels of remarkable expressive freedom and technical command. Built, carved, painted, glazed, and repeatedly fired, each sculpture bears the quiet evidence of touch, gravity, heat, and time.

Gandhi's paintings similarly privilege intuition over certainty. Emerging through an instinctive process in which memory, observation, and imagination converge, his enigmatic theater of figures inhabits spaces that feel at once familiar and elusive. Rather than illustrating narrative, his paintings invite viewers into emotional landscapes that remain deliberately open.
