Ross Caliendo & Andrew Cannon

Blood Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Ross Caliendo and Andrew Cannon.

In 2013 Caliendo and Cannon converted a garage in Echo Park into a gallery dubbed Secret Recipe, with a little sprout emerging through drywall. Over the past two years countless studio visits and conversations between themselves and other Los Angeles based painters have culminated in monthly exhibitions. As the sprout turned vine and crept its way along the white wall, framing the work hung below it, so has Secret Recipe’s monthly exhibition served to mark a site of rich public and private discourse about the local and large project of painting today, including a variety of voices and at times providing a platform for otherwise under-represented work.

Now residing in Los Angeles and New York, respectively, Caliendo and Cannon both continue to work with a shared baroque sensibility for materials and colors and an emphasis on the object part of the image-object. It is particularly exciting as this duo is divided across the country to look at their connected practices. We are also pleased to be able to host the hosts themselves, and to nurture the conversation they’ve grown in a far off and yet kindred space on the other coast.
