Francesca Sostar: Scarlet is a coming-of-age series of vignettes exploring dysphoria, invisibility, and ultimately a sense of identity. It poses the question — are we in charge of our identity or is it dictated by our experiences? This project examines personal memories of queerness in home-life, and the complexities of that dynamic. Francesca's debut exhibition aims to ask this question through the use of their narrative style and a focus on the relationship between subject and environment.

Francesca Sostar (b. 1997, Long Island, New York) is a director and photographer who divides their practice between Los Angeles and New York. Sostar graduated from Syracuse University in 2019 with a background in film. Through their obsession with cinema, they became enthralled with the idea of being able to translate an entire story through a still image. Over the last few years, they've ventured into directing music videos and narrative films. Sostar works have been included in group shows at One Trick Pony, Black Box Gallery, and Maine Studio Works.
