This exhibition considers the body’s relationship to built environmental space in its transition from a functional place that facilitates production to a fantastical environment to foster experience–a playscape. The artworks on view reflect fragments of industry and commercialization while referring to artificial landscapes, architectures of state control, aberrations of industrial production and the uneasy promise of fantastical worlds. As we negotiate our social and productive lives becoming increasingly removed from the physical realm, how will our bodies relate to our material surroundings? Signaling to both hazard and desire, the works in this exhibition uphold corporeal presence as a meaningful way to interpret our recent past and intervene in what comes after.
