Firework Gallery is pleased to present "Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc", a group show featuring three painters.

Latin for "after this, therefore because of this,” Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc explores the transformation of source material trough the creative painting process. As the completed work emerges, we are left with a new vision not tied to its temporal sequencing and given a fresh starting point to contemplate and generate our own narrative.

Todd Bienvenu grew up in Louisiana and Arkansas. He received his BFA in painting from Louisiana State University and moved to New York in 2004 to study at the New York Studio School. His work has been shown in a number of New York galleries and venues including Life on Mars, Steven Harvey, the Sculpture Center, Trestle, Brian Morris, Novella, Storefront and others. Currently works can be seen at Centotto, Steven Harvey, Mars and Steven Zevitas in Boston. He is represented by Life on Mars in New York.

Matthew F Fisher lives and works in Brooklyn and completed his MFA at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000. He has shown widely in NYC and across the country. This includes solo exhibitions at Sardine Brooklyn, Ampersand Gallery, ADA Gallery, Mulherin + Pollard Projects, University of the Arts, and RARE Gallery. He has been in group shows at Old Dominion University, Novella Gallery, SEASON, and Sarah Lawrence College. His work was selected for inclusion in New American Paintings Northeast Issue #116 – 2015.

Gretchen Scherer was Born in 1979 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Gretchen Scherer received a BFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated with an MFA from Hunter College in 2006. She was awarded a Graf travel grant to Berlin and attended Skowhegan Residency. Her work has been included in group shows in New York, Chicago, and LA as well as a solo show in New York. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
