Facing is an exhibition that addresses questions of Latina/o identity through figuration and portraiture, while also questioning the limits of the genre itself. What are the signifiers of Latina/o identity? Who determines them? And how can they account for a state of becoming?

Each of the artists in this exhibition are of Latina/o descent and reside within Southern California. This exhibition hopes to build a dialogue between young artists of Latina/o descent and those of older generations whose work is currently being exhibited throughout Southern California for the PST LA/LA initiative.

Accompanying the exhibition is a publication of writings from Nikki Darling, Alexis Disselkoen, Angel Dominguez, Raquel Gutiérrez, Paul Pescador, Iván Ramos and Félix Solano Vargas.

Facing es una exposición que aborda cuestiones identidad latina a través de la figuración y el retrato, mientras también cuestiona los límites del género mismo. ¿Cuáles son los significantes de la identidad latina? ¿Quién los determina? y ¿Quién es socialmente responsable por mantener esta identidad?

Cada uno de los artistas de esta exposición es de origen latino y reside en el sur de California. Esta muestra pretende construir un diálogo entre jóvenes artistas de ascendencia latina y los de las generaciones anteriores cuya obra actualmente se está exhibiendo en el sur de California como parte de la iniciativa LA PST/LA.

La exposición incluye los textos de Nikki Darling, Alexis Disselkoen, Ángel Domínguez, Raquel Gutiérrez, Pablo Pescador, Iván Ramos y Félix Solano Vargas.
