Catharine Czudej

Egan and Rosen is pleased to present Catharine Czudej: Hippie Puke, featuring new ceramic and bismuth works by the New York artist. Czudej, well known for giant inflatables, homemade lava lamps, pretzel furniture, and collapsing sculptures, has embarked upon a new career in radical applied chemistry. Bismuth, a post-transitional element with the symbol Bi and an atomic number 83, is known as one of the most stable elements in the universe, and when oxidized, forms a brilliant rainbow tarnish over its dark silver pink crystalline geometry of stair-stepped spirals. In shallow molten baths, Czudej has grown forests of this atomic psychedelia, mining these asymmetrical structures with help from sheets of ceramic bedrock. Iridescent and grotesque, with coins of the realm mixed in for legal representation, Czudej has rendered solid a chunk of the grooviest cosmic bile to ever rise up out out of our free spirited little planet.
