Joanna Pousette-Dart

Lisson Gallery presents a selection of paintings by Joanna Pousette-Dart, including three from the Nocturnes series (2016-2017), along with the large canvas work, Night Road (2008). The exhibition highlights Pousette-Dart’s signature format of curved canvases and dynamic compositions. Her emphasis on shaped panels began while working in the deserts of Galisteo, New Mexico in the 1990s. Sensing the limiting nature of the rectangular canvas, she experimented with new ways to create a pictorial scope that would more accurately reflect her perceptions. The subsequent arrangements are an organically-evolving alternative, at once evoking the curvature of the earth and one’s field of vision.
