Inherited Profiles is Irina Ojovan’s first solo exhibition at the Loock Galerie. We are extremely pleased to be working together with this outstanding artist.

In her paintings and sculptures, Irina Ojovan explores the interaction between materiality, form, and their meaning. The title of her exhibition, Inherited Profiles, refers to aluminum profile sheets that her father designed for moldings while working as an architect. Appropriated by Ojovan, these profiles are the starting point for a new visual imagery and call on memories from different periods of her life. On a formal level, they function as an outline of a form or figure; on an abstract one, the profiles operate as a metaphor for a biography that includes her experiences and emotions. The relationship between the two is conveyed through abstract forms and simplified geometric compositions, which reveal, particularly through the surfaces and colours of her work, a new realm of emotions and associations. Through their reference to architecture, Ojovan's paintings and sculptures interact with the exhibition space and examine the depiction of information versus non-information, the void, and the limits of representation.

Inherited Profiles is supported by Neustart Kultur Stiftung Kunstfonds, and will be accompanied by an exhibition catalogue and program that includes an artist talk and guided tour.

Inherited Profiles ist die erste Einzelausstellung von Irina Ojovan in der Loock Galerie. Wir freuen uns sehr auf die Zusammenarbeit mit dieser herausragenden Künstlerin.

Irina Ojovan bewegt sich in ihrer Malerei und Skulptur im Wechselspiel von Materialität, äußerer Formalität und deren inhärenter Bedeutung. Der Titel Inherited Profiles bezieht sich auf Werkzeuge für Stuckelemente, die ihr Vater in seiner Tätigkeit als Architekt entwarf. Von Ojovan angeeignet, werden sie als Teil ihr persönlichen Geschichte zu den Bausteinen einer neuen Bildwelt. Diese Profile bilden gewissermaßen die Synthese zeitübergreifender Erinnerungswelten Ojovans. Auf formaler Ebene fungiert das Profil als Umriss einer Form oder Figur und ist zugleich Metapher für eine Biografie samt ihrer Erfahrungen und Emotionalen. Dieses Spannungsverhältnis übersetzt Ojovan in abstrakte Formen und auf wenige geometrische Flächen reduzierte Bildkompositionen, die über Farbe und Oberflächentextur eigene Emotions- und Assoziationsräume eröffnen. Durch die Referenz zur Architektur interagieren Ojovans Bilder und Skulpturen mit dem Ausstellungsraum und behandeln somit die Darstellung von Information versus Nicht-Information, Leere und den Grenzen des Sichtbaren.

Inherited Profiles wird von einem Ausstellungskatalog sowie Rahmenprogramm mit Artist Talk, Führung und Interview begleitet. Diese Ausstellung der Loock Galerie wird gefördert von Neustart Kultur Stiftung Kunstfonds.
