La Vitrine
Gorišek previously studied sculpture in Slovenia but broke off his studies to experiment with the medium of painting, combining his experience as a graffiti artist with his love for fashion. He creates large portraits based on photographs of celebrities, athletes, and other iconic figures, which are composed from a combination of oil stick and spray gun acrylic applications. Emblazoned on each portrait is Gorišek’s trademark smiley face, intentionally blurring out the defining features of the depicted character to replace it with a kind of mask, behind which, it is uncertain what the figure is actually feeling. Gorišek creates textured grounds on which to spray, which provide a strong contrast between the tactility of his facture and the smooth, evenly distributed strokes of his paint gun.
