More from Anselm Reyle on Gallop
König Galerie celebrates the 2017 Gallery Weekend Berlin with three new solo exhibitions. The sculpture garden at St. Agnes, which was first inaugurated a year ago, is also being largely redesigned for the occasion.
In the large gallery inside the former church (St. Agnes | Nave), Anselm Reyle (b. 1970) presents his first show at König Galerie featuring new works on over 4000 sq ft. The Berlin-based artist primarily works in painting, installation art, and sculpture; his work has been honored with solo exhibitions at Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, Kunsthalle Zürich, and the Arken Museum of Modern Art, Denmark. Reyle has also taught at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg (HFBK) since 2009. In 2014, his temporary withdrawal from the art world caused a stir. For St. Agnes, the artist conceived a space-grabbing installation with hanging kinetic sculptures and new paintings.
In the chapel (St. Agnes | Chapel), Michaela Meise (b. 1976) presents “Holle-Vanderbilt,” an exhibition that interweaves the well-known fairytale of Mother Holle with the life of the American artist Gloria Vanderbilt. The show includes objects borrowed from everyday life, furniture sculptures, and one ceramic.
The former church garden, which was converted into König Galerie’s sculpture garden and first opened to the public during the 2016 Gallery Weekend, is being redesigned. Joining previously installed pieces by Claudia Comte, David Zink Yi, Tatiana Trouvé, Jeppe Hein, and Alicja Kwade, new works by Jonas Burgert, Erwin Wurm, Camille Henrot, Elmgreen & Dragset, Stefan Strumbel and Joep van Lieshout will be on view in the green open space.
