About the show

Yours Mine & Ours is pleased to present, Accessories, Hannah Barrett’s first solo show with the gallery.

Through a series of new paintings, part fantastical monster, part modern-day Dandy, the artist reconsiders the figure through a theatrical lens, creating a mise-en-scene exploring the ideas and ideals of otherness with a sense of humor, style and whimsy.

Barrett creates magnificent wallflowers, tender beasts flitting about inside an eccentric universe. The figures, both bursting out of and wearing their tight, monochromatic surroundings are interchangeable: malleable beings filled with personality but tied to no specific identity. They are everywhere and nowhere, existing in the in-between.

Hannah Barrett lives and works in Brooklyn and Hudson, NY. Barrett received an MFA from Boston University in painting in 1998. She has had solo exhibitions at Regina Rex, Stephan Stoyanov Gallery and The Gibson House Museum among others. Selected group exhibitions include Kate Werble Gallery, Calicoon Fine Arts, The Brucenniel and National Museum of Women in the Arts. Her work has been written about in Time Out New York, Modern Painters and the Boston Globe.

About Yours Mine & Ours

We founded yours mine & ours two and a half years ago as a community space to support and exhibit the work of artists we admire. We’ve shown video games, paintings, sculptures, bongs, photographs, computer programs, videos and even a large ceramic pipe that functioned as a planter. We’ve always had fun in this endeavor and hope our programming has shown you a bit of who we are, too, as people.
