About the show
“Flying with a tail wind is like walking on a moving sidewalk”
A collection of nylon wind socks are installed in a kinetic installation that references the environment and the human body. Thelander's sewn fabric sculptures bring environmental conditions inside; the inanimate forms are filled, intermittently, by a manufactured breeze; when their gestures enter the gallery, they become considered, flattened, framed and mediated.
Thelander's paintings use the architecture of the gallery as a starting point. She uses a combination of staining, airbrush, and conventional paintbrush techniques to apply color to polyester batting, achieving a captivating effect where images emerge from an absorbent, fiberous surface.
Thelander lives and works in Brooklyn and recieved her MFA from the Yale School of Art.
About Los Ojos
Los Ojos was conceived in 2013 by Brendan Berg and Karl Hinojosa to exhibit new and experimental work by emerging contemporary artists. Brendan has a background in sculpture and computer science and has been involved in New York’s technology industry for the past seven years. Nevertheless, he remained preoccupied with the arts, and Los Ojos presents an exciting chance to share his experience with the greater public.
