Barry McGee

The Hole is proud to present a special Barry McGee project for our West Coast friends as well, Cherry Pit, following his basement-dwelling "Cherry Picking" that warmed our snowy New York hearts last month. Activating his West Coast network of artists and outsiders, this special project hidden in our art storage includes works by Barry, works from his personal collection as well as pieces from fifty or more friends. To add a cherry on top, he is hosting a zine fair in the gallery for Frieze Week as well!

Barry McGee (b. 1966, San Francisco) attended the San Francisco Art Institute in the early 90s, while completing his MFA he picked printmaking at a local letterpress shop. An internationally-acclaimed artist, McGee has had solo exhibitions at museums and institutions including Fondazione Prada, Milan; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, California; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas; the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; and the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara, California. His impact on the graffiti scene and street art movement cannot be overlooked, Barry's work can be seen 'in the wild' on unsuspecting streets and trains all over the world.
