Cristina Grajales

A former printing house in the Flatiron district gave Grajales more space to develop an ambitious program. Groundbreaking designers of furniture and lighting, ceramics, metal and textiles—often testing the boundaries between functional objects and sculpture—joined the gallery. With Doug and Mike Starn’s adventurous Big Bambú exhibition of 2017, and debuts by an international cadre of designers, Grajales furthered her mission to cultivate new forms of creative expression—and new ways to communicate the excitement of contemporary design. Catalogues, fairs, and an ongoing lecture series at the 92 nd Street Y have underlined the gallery’s expertise across decades of design history.

In 2001, seeking a home for her new design advisory business, Cristina Grajales rented a floor in a former SoHo textile factory.
