More from Kate Mosher Hall on Gallop

Tanya Leighton is pleased to announce its representation of Los Angeles-based artist Kate Mosher Hall. This new collaboration is marked by her first solo exhibition at the gallery in Berlin, which is also her first exhibition in Europe.

Kate Mosher Hall’s practice encompasses printmaking, painting, sculpture and performance. In recent years Mosher Hall has been gaining recognition for her paintings made using silk-screening techniques that push the boundaries of the medium in new directions. These images dissolve or resolve depending on the proximity of the viewer to the canvas and gradations of light on their surfaces. Ranging from stage sets to curtains or cartoonish backdrops, her carefully constructed compositions evoke both real and artificial scenarios.

Mosher Hall’s exhibition, Offset, at Tanya Leighton, Berlin will feature a new body of paintings that demonstrate her ongoing interest in the representation of light, its leaky edges and atmospheric affects.

“The spotlight crawls across the floor, up the wall, glowing like a handy, sudden moon. It is a tunnel, which is a kind of vision—a porthole, a hole punch. The darkness simmers. In Kate Mosher Hall’s paintings, the light roams. It searches. These are stage sets for a play that hasn’t started yet or ended years ago; the potential action scuttles between past and future, memory and longing.”

—Audrey Wollen, artist and writer.
