Andrei Koschmieder

In the attempt to reflect on his new role as Father, Andrei Koschmieder presents sculpture depicting the tasks and resultant physical state of around-the-clock childcare. The shortage of time, and exhaustion are hallmarks. Each scene is set on craggy platforms of homemade playdough - dyed in primary colors in the rudimentary shapes of early learning. Like the wall art of early cave dwellers, each scene is a straightforward report of an instant - whether it be real or a fantasy. Yellow, red, and blue; point and line to a triangular or squarish plane - are the objects of highbrow toddlerhood but also for some, inflections that possibly concern a spiritual in art. Early synapse development meets early species self-depiction. One can call a triangle by name, but it took until Euclid to theoretically ground it; one can illustrate a man on horse hunting large mammal, yet reveal zero character of consciousness. Regarding topic, articulation skims by nature.

Andrei Koschmieder (b. 1980, Frankfurt, Germany) lives and works in New York, NY. He received his MFA in 2008 from Städelschule Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Frankfurt am Main. This is the artist’s second solo exhibition at Jenny’s.
