The Life Cycle of a Flea

More from Prem Sahib on Gallop

Prem Sahib's The Life Cycle of a Flea revolves around two central figures, the child and the flea, implicating them in questions around growth, extraction, contamination, and existence within systems of control. It includes new sculpture, painting, installation, light and sound work.

The flea, for Sahib, functions as a malleable symbol; a parasitic entity that sits close to a body, extractive by nature; a transmitter of disease, able to move imperceptibly across spaces and organisms; suggestive of an unsettling intimacy. The flea is situated in proximity to the child, who is gestured to throughout the show at multiple stages of development - serving as a destabilised metaphor for politicized notions of futurity.
