It takes a whole long lifetime of sacrificing to the graces to support this kind of work. Or perhaps I am pretending that it is not also showing how to deal with the difficulty of being the woman painter, though I hate to drag that part up. To not ever care because I swear there was such ruthlessness in my own nature that I was always dying to get it right, the real thing. These are the paintings I've made recently. They were painted far from a city. The cities are the whole of art. Here now above a corner of lower Manhattan just like I was before. Déjà vu.
