Welcome to the cult of the Mutha where candy colored relics of humanity’s future past are preserved. A matriarchal society, the Mutha was preoccupied with the corporeal and its connection to the natural world. The male form is given special attention in their artifacts, lovingly rendered in the nude, soft and exposed. Various vessels offer food and flowers, an assortment of the earthly delights the Mutha hold dear. Exfoliation treatments leave elaborate psychedelic patterning and sparkling crystalline surfaces. A mask is a template, a tool, an obstruction, a manifestation of the collective. These objects are elastic, broken apart and glued back together forever inviting new interpretations within the collections of their current owners. There is much still to learn from these fragments of their world, secret histories of power and possibility yet uncovered. We offer them up to you for your enjoyment and understanding, and in hopes that the ethos of the Mutha can flourish and thrive.
