Allen & Eldridge is pleased to announce its forthcoming solo exhibition by Joey Frank.

The flash of a camera, like a strike of a gong, punctuates an ongoing moment into a seemingly graspable image. But even that image is transient and its momentary object-hood disintegrates while inherently reverberating its decay in space. The initial blow from a gong and flare from a camera is so instant, so glaring that its impact vibrates immanently thereafter, simultaneously feeding the initial glare with more volume and imagery and–also–announcing its entropic decomposition.

Through analog and digital technologies, Be Fruitfly and Multiple, a solo exhibition by Joey Frank at Allen & Eldridge, situates these fabricated resonances in dialogue with content that appears as counterpoints of infinite presence, like the constant, sonic stream of an exhaust pipe that juts through a painting and the cylindrical stamp that imprints its narrative into a cyclical tale roll after roll.

With these differing temporalities of image construction, content, or its echo, from one instrument becomes absorbed into another, generating varying productions and re-productions of morphed motifs and iconography – embedded 3D images in paintings, laser cut outlets, illustrated eggshells pregnant with LEDs that hang from lathed wood. Throughout these tableaus, an avatar of the author that wears both a dominant grimace and foolish chuckle becomes a repeated character. The toothless prophet continuously consumes information from and appears in the different sets, a fruit of its own loin, while gradually leaving its last representable vestige.

The walls of the basement of Allen & Eldridge both houses and are the parameters against which the work in Be Fruitfly and Multiple generate a constant inverted crescendo.
