Erick Meyenberg

The artist Erick Meyenberg (b. 1980, Mexico City) and the curator Tania Ragasol (b. 1972, Mexico City) represent Mexico at the 60th Venice Art Biennial, Italy.

They will participate with the video art piece titled As We Marched Away, We Were Always Coming Back, which was selected by a jury, reported the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), through a release.

"It stood out for its conceptual, theoretical and artistic proposal, around the reflection on migratory asylum that is part of the history of Mexico, a country where cultural diversity nourishes the views of those who propose breaking walls and borders through artistic dialogues , and which is internationally recognized for opening its doors to refugees who left their places of origin for various political, social or economic reasons, allowing the immigration of entire families of diverse origins," the agencies detail.

As We Marched Away, We Were Always Coming Back fits into the theme that the Biennale will have in this edition, which is "Foreigners Everywhere" and was chosen by the curator of the International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, Adriano Pedroza, who is also the first Latin American to curate a Venice Biennale.

"The table has been left, like a monument, for the migrants who are yet to come," said Ragasol, who has worked in museums such as the Carrillo Gil Art Museum, the Tamayo Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, as well as in Zona Maco.

For its part, Meyenberg's work is in the collections of important contemporary art institutions, including the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC, UNAM), the Tamayo Museum (Inbal), the Amparo Museum, the Fundación Telefónica de México and the Benetton Foundation of Italy.
