Marie Karlberg

This exhibition includes seven films that draw directly from the professional lives of its participating actors, all of whom are artists and arts workers. Each actor chose how much work they wanted to put into their character. There are no memorized lines. Actors show up and spend as much time as they’d like on the shoot, improvising off of a treatment which outlines the setting—a dinner, a studio visit, another studio visit, an opening, an installation, a day at the gallery and a performance. With these simple outlines and with performances that refer to the actors own lived experiences, an exaggerated, statrical image of everyday life in the art world is presented, highlighting the disappointment, frustration and absurdity of its customs and norms.

Over the course of the exhibition, I will stage performances that I have mounted elsewhere. The materials related to their performance will also be on view—digitally printed canvases, ventilated plexiglass display boxes. The performances Limited Moves, The Artist Will Be Attendance and The Interruption will be performed on selected dates between December 12th to January 26th.
