Out of Joint

New Collectors is pleased to present Out of Joint, an exhibition curated by Alice Sossella and featuring the work of seven international photographers.

The exhibition includes 20 works; one fabric tapestry, one book, one knit costume, and 17 photographs exploring themes of family, identity, beauty, and love. Sometimes bizarre and always a bit jarring, the work in Out of Joint brings together a wide range of perspectives by artists who are thoughtful and dedicated but who also leave room for spontaneity and play.

All the artists featured in this exhibition turn everyday life on its head, creating a short circuit between reality and illusion. Everything is perfectly clear and nothing makes sense. Each picture is the crossroads between a dark fairy tale and a joke. Sometimes carefully constructed down to the smallest detail, sometimes completely random, these photographs are a set of memories so blurred that they can be continuously reinvented by the viewer, who gets lost in the impossibility of defining what is familiar and what is not, what is chosen and what is random.

Alice Sossella (b. 1988) is a curator, photo editor and project manager based in Milan. After a specialization in Economics, she redirected her path to contemporary photography, developing communication and editorial projects with Italian and international artists, in collaboration with museums, cultural institutions and magazines. Aspiring to make photography an inclusive and crucial language for the understanding of the contemporary, in the last years she developed several outdoor installations, creating channels to new worlds accessible to all.
