Emily Janowick

Kate Werble is pleased to present Obsession by Emily Janowick. In her debut solo exhibition with Kate Werble, Janowick installs a sculpture that transforms the gallery through stalks of growing corn. Using corn as her primary medium, Janowick invokes her ancestral past with Appalachia and the American South and creates a metaphor that extends beyond agriculture and American history.

Emily Janowick (born Murray, KY) received a BFA from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN, an MFA from Hunter College in New York, NY and attended Yale Norfolk in 2012. Janowick has held solo exhibitions at Foyer Gallery in Los Angeles, CA, International Waters in Brooklyn, NY, and Parent Company in New York, NY. Her work has been written about in The New York Times, Artnews, Artnet News, and Hyperallergic, among others. Janowick was a 2025 artist in residence at Shandaken: Storm King and will be the distinguished Windgate Artist in Residence at Purchase College in 2026. Janowick lives and works in Queens, New York.
