Raúl de Nieves

The Sword, the Horse, and the Silence

Nov 5 – Dec 19, 2026

More from Raúl de Nieves on Gallop

Company Gallery is pleased to present The Sword, the Horse, and the Silence, an exhibition of new paintings, works on paper, beaded sculptures, and stained-glass windows by Raúl de Nieves.

Revisiting the fable of Saint George and the Dragon, a recurring image in his practice since 2003, de Nieves explores belief, violence, and transformation. Identifying with the saint, the dragon, and the horse, de Nieves questions how power and virtue are constructed. Across the exhibition, familiar figures give way to abstraction, taking new forms through repetition, ornament, and fragmentation.

Raúl de Nieves (b. 1983, Michoacán, Mexico) is a multimedia artist, performer, and musician based in Brooklyn. His practice explores beauty and transformation through sculpture, painting, installation, and performance. Drawing on Catholic imagery and Mexican vernacular traditions, he uses accumulation and adornment to transform everyday materials into objects and environments shaped by personal mythology.

Recent solo institutional exhibitions include In Light of Innocence at Pioneer Works, Brooklyn (2025); and imagine you are here at the Baltimore Museum of Art (2023); A window to the see, a spirit star chiming in the wind of wonder… at Henry Art Gallery, Seattle (2023); and The Treasure House of Memory at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (2021). His work is held in the collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
