More from Joanne Robertson on Gallop

Company Gallery is pleased to present Evening was blue, an exhibition of new paintings and drawings by Joanne Robertson,.

The works were created during a summer 2026 residency organized by the Jacqueline de Jong Foundation at the Dutch artist’s former country home and studio in rural central France. Produced in de Jong’s former studio, overlooking the orchard and neighboring fields, Robertson’s paintings bear traces of the landscape in which they were conceived. Her paintings move fluidly between abstraction, landscape, and figuration, allowing familiar forms to dissolve, shift, and re-emerge through an intuitive interplay of color and gesture.

Joanne Robertson (b. 1979, Manchester, England) lives and works in Glasgow. Her large-scale paintings evoke a rhythm of process and improvisation that connects directly to the artist’s intertwined music practice. Her layered approach to painting creates depth and movement, the brushstrokes an extension of the artist’s hand as she moves across the canvas with fluid precision.

Selected solo exhibitions include Bathtub, Edouard Montassut, Paris (2026); Field, Company Gallery, New York (2024); Night, Sandy Brown, Berlin (2022); Feels, Edouard Montassut, Paris (2021); and Mad Season, Mother Culture, Berlin (2020). Her work is held in the Deutsche Bank Collection, UPS Collection, and Sammlung Sanders, Germany.
