Peter Alexander

Pietro Alexander is pleased to present Velvets, 1980-1985, an exhibition of mixed media paintings by Peter Alexander. Best known as a pioneer of California Light and Space, Alexander followed his luminous resin sculptures with something few anticipated: glittering, textile-laden paintings on black velvet, inspired by nighttime ocean phosphorescence. Drawn from his Catalina Velvets series, the works are on view in New York for the first time as a dedicated presentation.
