Marc Petitjean & Freydelyne Charles

In 1975, Marc Petitjean was already taking pictures of a building on rue Beaubourg, Paris, across the street from where he lived, when he met Gordon Matta-Clark who was looking for a site to realize his Conical Intersect : he suggested to him this very building which was about to be destroyed.

Petitjean will present at the EHF a video of Matta-Clark constructing his work (the video also includes a rare interview of the artist) and some previously unseen photos of the work in process.

Freydelyne Charles will perform Go’don roots, a mix of body and sign language, with chanting, inspired by Matta-Clark’s Conical Intersect – a performance about blank space and absence.

Marc Petitjean is a French documentary film maker and photographer. He has directed more than 30 documentaries and videos dealing with art, politics and society. For the past ten years he has focused his work on Japan : « Atomic Wounds » and « From Hiroshima to Fukushima », about Hiroshima bomb survivors and the Fukushima nuclear disaster - « Leaving Treasure », a portrait of Kunihiko Moriguchi, a Living National Treasure, expert in the art of Yuzen, a 17th century dying technique – and « Tokyo Freeters », on marginalized young people and the phenomenon of social/economic exclusion. http://www.marcpetitjean.fr

Freydelyne Charles was born in Haïti and lives in Paris. She explores the deep peasant culture of her native country, leading workshops with artists, school children and handicaped people in France and in Haïti.
