“In the context of the recent lockdown, I’ve been thinking about how to make paintings for a viewer stuck in a room for months on end. Landscape painting has always been a delightfully absurd idea to me - Sisyphean in the way it utilizes a flat surface to simulate the expansiveness and flux that we can only experience outside. And, now it feels imperative that my new paintings provide either an actual substitute or a useful devotional image of the experience of the outside”
