It’s the tackiness of the adaptation of meditative aesthetics. It’s the nostalgic smell of a serum on your second degree burn. It’s the neon light that turns a pattern into an optic sting. It’s the rage of sexual whimsy. It’s the quietly crackling raucousness of ephemerality.

Beverly's is excited to present an exhibition of site-specific works by four artists who utilize optics, moirés, repetition, and patterning to represent the buzz of disquiet just beneath the surface of our acceptance of familiar systems.

Carrick Bell is a video artist based in Berlin. He makes videos using already existing material to play with the identity crisis of video and the cultures that produce it. His recent work focuses on the anxiety that accompanies subjective responses to infinite possibilities, endless customization, and the imperative that a subject define themselves through decision making. Bell received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2008, and a BA from Hampshire College in 2004. Recent residencies include the Wassaic Project and NARS International Studio Residency in New York. He has recently exhibited at the Chelsea College of the Arts in London, the Wassaic Project and the NARS Foundation in New York, Kunsthalle Exnergasse in Vienna, Charim Gallery in Vienna, LW56 in Vienna, .hbc in Berlin, the Brooklyn Pavillion of the Shanghai Biennale, and BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music). He is co-founder and co-director, along with Michael Ruglio-Misurell of Berlin-based artist-run space HPFA (HORSEANDPONY Fine Arts).

Mark Joshua Epstein is an artist and independent curator based in New York and Ann Arbor. He received his MFA with distinction from the Slade School of Fine Arts in London, and his BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Epstein has recently had solo or two person shows at Caustic Coastal in Manchester UK, Vane Gallery in Newcastle UK, Demo Project in Springfield, Illinois, Biquini Wax and Breve in Mexico City, and Brian Morris Gallery in New York. Recent group shows include Woskob Gallery at State College in Pennsylvania, Schema Projects in Brooklyn, Hoffman LaChance Gallery in St. Louis, Geoffrey Young Gallery in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and Vox Populi Gallery in Philadelphia. Additionally Epstein has participated in residencies at NARS Foundation, Saltonstall Foundation, Millay Colony, Jentel Foundation, Macdowell Colony, I-Park and Kimmel Harding Nelson Center, amongst others. He is the recipient of a Traveling Scholar award for alumni from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.

Drea Cofield is an artist living and working in New York City. Her paintings and drawings playfully probe the absurd & richly allegorical space between public performance and interior life. Cofield's work has been shown in the US and internationally, most recently at Nancy Margolis Gallery in Chelsea, New York; Able Baker Contemporary in Portland, Maine; a public artwork for Ideal Glass Gallery in the East Village; and a solo exhibition at Durden & Ray in Los Angeles, CA. Upcoming exhibitions include her first solo show in New York at Nancy Margolis Gallery in September 2018. Cofield is also the Founder & Director of BombPop!Up Collective, a group of artists, writers, and musicians organizing pop-up art & music events that work to collapse hierarchies and create temporary intersectional cultural spaces. She is a recipient of The National Society of Arts & Letters Naomi Winston Scholarship, the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant, the Gloucester Painting Prize, Yale School of Art, and was nominated for the Rema Hort Mann Emerging Artist Grant in 2015. Cofield has work and writing published in Precog Magazine, Volumes 2 & 3, and The Brooklyn Rail. She holds two degrees from DePauw University (B.A.) and Yale School of Art (M.F.A., Painting/Printmaking)

Michael Ruglio-Misurell is a Berlin-based artist with a BFA from The Art Institute of Boston and an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and was a 2009 Fulbright Fellowship recipient to Germany. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at the Helen Day Art Center in Stowe, Vermont, a two-person show at LVL3 in Chicago, and a two-person show at Aunt Linda in Berlin. Past residencies include Mass Moca, The Wassaic Project, Vermont Studio Center, The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and Ox-Bow. Along with Carrick Bell, Ruglio-Misurell co-runs HORSEANDPONY Fine Arts in Berlin.
