Coustof Waxman is pleased to present Surface Feelings. It will be the final exhibition at our current location.

It is generally accepted that emotional transparency is a positive thing in relationships, but there are always holdouts. The works in this exhibition play on the line where a certain matter-of-factness edges into something else. Not necessarily outright trickery, but an approach to painting and image that is willfully sideways. Gesture here is excised, at arm’s length, possibly in curiosity or as a form of self examination. Materiality is placed in high regard, a dependable if limited source of truth. All around there is a strong sense of waiting on a feeling. Thus, an appropriate time to mention Donatello, the most measured and cerebral of the Turtles.
