More from Than Hussein Clark on Gallop
Crèvecœur is pleased to present Than Hussein Clark’s solo exhibition.
For his new exhibition at Crèvecœur, Than Hussein Clark continues his research into the famous ball orchestrated by Charles de Beistegui, in the Venetian Palazzo Labia. This luxurious palace, built in the 17th century and renovated by Beistegui, hosted an unprecedented event in 1951. Daisy Fellows, Salvador Dali and Orson Welles were seen parading between characters dressed as allegories of the four seasons, emperor and empress of China or Cleopatra. The protagonists of Than Hussein Clark's works, such as Barbara Hutton and Jean Cocteau, were also invited, as were artists and couturiers who shared the attraction in disguise and makeup. Flamboyant wigs, glass chandeliers, haute couture outfits, gilding and velvet draperies — all are details that marked this event, known throughout Europe for its splendor.
