John Chamberlain

Chamberlain Goes Outdoors at Rockefeller Center features three works by renowned American sculptor John Chamberlain (1927-2011). The large-scale sculptures, Fiddlersfortune (Pink) (2010), Balmywisecrack (Copper) (2010), and Ritzfrolic (Green) (2008), will be installed on Center Plaza, surrounded by the energy of Rockefeller Center’s dynamic campus. This is the first time these three sculptures will be presented in the United States following presentations in Amsterdam, Scotland, and London, and Balmywisecrack (Copper) will be exhibited to the public for the first time. Presented by Mnuchin Gallery, this installation offers a rare opportunity to encounter one of Chamberlain’s final bodies of work in one of New York’s most iconic public spaces.

Elsewhere at the Center, Christie’s will exhibit 11 works by Chamberlain, including 7 small-scale Foils, two Tonks, and three tabletop sculptures, at its headquarters at 20 Rockefeller Plaza. A private sale will open on Thursday, April 17.

McNally Jackson, the celebrated New York bookseller, will offer Assouline’s 280-page Living With Chamberlain at its Rockefeller Center location beginning on its release date of April 16, the artist’s birthday. Living With Chamberlain is a multifaceted perspective on what it truly means to share space with Chamberlain and his creations, revealed through interviews with collectors as well as personal and professional contacts of the late artist.
