Charmoli Charmoli is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Jorge Cruz. As our first ever exhibition, we believe that Cruz’s practice encompasses our vision for the programming of the gallery. One of impassioned curation of the emerging young artist or the overlooked late career artist. Not for the faint of heart. Cherishing the courage, vulnerability and thoughtful practice that it takes for the Artist to share their ideas with the public. We invite all who are interested in journeying along with us in life’s joys and sorrows.

Cruz passionately depicts images with affects of dramatic tragedy as productions in theater might. Being a self- taught painter, born in Ecuador and raised in Brooklyn, the young Cruz often references publicly displayed works of classical or early twentieth-century movements, bringing themes and styles into the contemporary narrative. Doused in the fires of romance and macabre Cruz tells enigmatic stories with a bold tenderness. Themes of love, yearning, pain and ecstasy riddle the precisely deconstructed gestural compositions in his first NYC solo exhibition. The opening itself is a day before Cruz prepares to leave for an 18 month vigorous education as part of the inaugural class of Tracey Emin’s residency in Great Britain.
