Fabien Conti

Another Gallery is pleased to present Presiche, an exhibition of a polyptych painting by Fabien Conti.

The floodgates are open. The earth is in constant turmoil, and a tipping point seems to be surpassed everyday. Some refer to this geological epoch as the anthropocene, in which human activity has become the main determinant in environmental activity. Amidst this turmoil, Fabien Conti is finding his bearings. By looking back to the work of German Romanticism, Conti finds a compatible gesture to the problems of our age, in which industrialization chokes the last expanses of wilderness. The romantics, and Conti’s work emerge from this warning in turn by reclaiming the environment as a refuge of the spirit.

Presiche is a tangle of lines and materials, in which nature is felt in the vicissitudes of color. Conti gestures to the linkages and breakages of the self through wind swept vines and broken fences, which he sets against vivid blooms of purple and red. Conti, like the Romantics before him, endeavors to extract himself from the real, in order to pass through the realm of impressions and finally a feeling of the sublime. Here, solitude, absence, and death dance around one another, and become urgently felt. In an age of spectacular devastation and desensitization, Conti’s aesthetic and spiritual intervention feels intuitive and necessary.

Fabien Conti (b. 1997) is an Italian-Martinican painter currently based in Paris, France. Conti is a graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris. This is his first exhibition with Another Gallery.
