Lizzie Wright

Essex Flowers is pleased to announce Timed Entry, a solo show of recent work by Lizzie Wright.

The sculptures in the show are composed of skeletal frameworks of pine wood held together by threaded rods that form an armature for objects such as; potatoes, tire treads, and beach combing finds. Colored lights evoking landscape are concealed beneath the wood. The sculptures emit a soft glow that connects the works to each other in a loose constellation. Tension arises between the attentive object arrangement and the rough-hewn manner in which the sculptural frameworks are composed. A sudden halting of movement like the blow out of a tire at high speed is suspended in the work, creating an overtone of stillness.

Lizzie Wright earned her MFA in Sculpture from the Yale University School of Art. Her work has been exhibited at such venues as: Essex Flowers, NY; Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, NY; Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn; Rawson Projects, NY; St Cecilia’s Convent, Brooklyn; Museum 52, NY; Artist Curated Projects and Three Days Awake, Los Angeles; Adds Donna, Chicago; Katzen American University, Washington, D.C. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
