Jonas Lund

Castor Gallery is pleased to announce Jonas Lund, Jonas Lund Token (JLT), an exhibition of 12 new wall based pieces by Swedish artist, Jonas Lund. This exhibition will be the artist’s first solo exhibition with Castor Gallery and run at both Spring/Break art fair and the gallery.

Jonas Lund Token (JLT) is a new work by Jonas Lund in which the artist has created 100,000 shares in his artistic practice. These shares will give the shareholders agency and voting power over future decisions concerning Jonas Lund's artistic practice and career trajectory.

Each share is represented by one Jonas Lund Token, a cryptocurrency built on and distributed via the Ethereum blockchain. Similar to a corporation, one share equals one vote, which will be worth each time a strategic decision needs to be made via the Jonas Lund Token website.

By creating 100,000 shares that will give each shareholder influence and agency over Lund’s artistic practice, and giving up his majority share, Lund is interested in subverting the traditional power structures that inform the contemporary art world, as well as the process of making optimal strategic decisions in a given situation. A distributed advisory board with an incentive to further strengthen the position of the artist, as it has a direct connection to the value of the Jonas Lund Token, aims to increase the efficiency of the decision making process and optimize each strategic decision for maximum effectiveness and profitability.

Jonas Lund (born 1984, Linköping, Sweden) creates paintings, sculpture, installations and new media works that incorporate data from his studies of art world trends and behavior. He earned an MA at Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam (2013) and a BFA at Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam (2009). He had solo exhibitions at Showroom MAMA, Rotterdam (2013); Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (2016) and Steve Turner, Los Angeles (2014; 2015 & 2016). Lund’s work was included in group exhibitions at Eyebeam, New York; New Museum, New York; The Moving Museum, Istanbul; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven and De Hallen, Haarlem.
