Vladislav Markov

Fragment is thrilled to present Eight Feet Under, Vladislav Markov's first solo show with the gallery. Markov's work, although rooted in a place of personal lived experience and introspection, deals primarily with the subversion of perception and cognition to achieve mental immobility. Using readymade and found objects, he decontextualizes them of their original function and makes them illegible to human understanding. As sculptures, they go through several stages of reconstruction, first as digital sketches and then as physical forms. In the case of his paintings, the aforementioned objects are reconstructed in virtual space with machine perception (scanning). This decontextualization and transformation of objects and images into machine specters widens the temporal gap between perception and recognition, making the perceiver aware of the fallibility of their cognitive ability.

Vladislav Markov (b. 1993) is an artist based in New York, with an MFA from Cornell University. He has exhibited at Cornell University, M 2 3 in New York, and Spazio ORR in Brescia, Italy.
