When John talked to me about joining I made a list of about 10 or so artists that I thought weren’t receiving the attention they deserved and that I could see fitting with your program. There’s good work happening outside the networks Svetlana artists usually come from and there are artists that may not be in style, but have never lost the thing that had always given them value. Its only recently that I’ve thought of the show as mine - as I said before a loose organizing principle is people who come from music. Which requires a higher level of investment and immersion for much lower stakes. I always find myself liking and trusting artists most who come to art from something else and who aren’t afraid to have a practice that requires a lot of consideration for any coherence. Something related to obsessive and maybe intuitive activity. Goal was trying to put together a show thats about 60% me 40% Svetlana. With Josef its about 50-50. I’m not trying to illustrate anything or be didactic with the show. I think now is a good time to show that long lasting intuitive practices have value. But maybe you have to pay attention to see it.
