Roméo Mivekannin

Roméo Mivekannin shows new paintings on black velvet that reinterpret works by artists including Homer, Sargent, Basquiat and David Hammons, with his own likeness inserted into the compositions. They are paired with The Souls of Black Folk, an installation of portraits of Black thinkers, writers and activists set against excerpts from W.E.B. Du Bois's book. The exhibition looks at migration, exile and who gets remembered in American history.
